An innovative drainage system: research for climate resilience and sustainable water management

Research into an innovative, resource-efficient drainage system

In recent years we have worked intensively on developing a drainage system that not only optimises water run-off but is also more resilient to climatic challenges. Our research concentrates on several key areas:

01

Material research and development

We investigate the physical and chemical fundamentals of water absorption and conduction in different materials. By analysing material properties and identifying specific polymers and composites associated with optimal water resistance and durability, we can drive targeted development programmes. These programmes aim to create system components that work reliably even under extreme soil conditions and loads.

02

System design and modularity

Another important aspect of our research is the considered design and modular construction of the system. We combine the properties of high-performance components for dry regions with those designed for high rainfall. These hybrid system configurations are intended to deliver both improved water drainage and greater resistance to clogging and material fatigue.

03

Installation and application technique

In addition to material research, we also investigate innovative laying and application techniques that maximise the efficiency of the system. These include:

  • Precise laying techniques such as trenchless methods that minimise interference with the soil structure.
  • The use of geotextiles and filter materials to prevent sediment ingress and ensure the longevity of the system.
  • The integration of sensor technology and intelligent control to monitor water flow and optimise drainage performance as required.
04

Climatic adaptability

A central goal of our research is to develop a drainage system optimally adapted to changing climatic conditions. We analyse the system's response to various environmental factors such as heavy rainfall events, long dry periods and differing soil conditions. This information helps us design systems that deliver their full performance not only under ideal but also under extreme conditions.

05

Long-term studies and monitoring

To ensure the sustainability of our system approaches, we conduct long-term studies. These studies allow us to observe the performance of the new drainage system over several years and to assess its adaptability to different environmental and load conditions.

In summary, our research into a resource-efficient and robust drainage system can make a significant contribution to sustainable water management and to the protection of infrastructure and agricultural land. By combining material research, innovative system design and sustainable application techniques, we aim to make water management fit for the future.
